Teacher Training Programme at Stalder Academy

Teacher training Class

 

Assistants

 

The first step to your teacher training is to help and assist the teachers in classes on a Friday and Saturday.

 

Assistants must be over the age of 11 and at least Grade 3 standard.

 

Duties include:

 

Keeping an eye on health and safety hazards in the studio

Toilet trips with the younger ones

Tying shoe laces and helping with changes

Helping less confident and new children settle into class

 

Commitment:

 

You will be allocated one assisting class in the week which you must commit to on a weekly basis. Continuity is essential in building a relationship and trust with the children.

 

Materials: 

 

There are no materials required although a Notebook and Graded syllabus book can be useful but are not necessary.

 

Teacher Trainees

 

The second step is to enrol on the teacher training program. You will work towards your Pre- Associate 1+2 exams in your chosen theatre subject (Ballet or Modern) which will then lead to your Level 4 Diploma in Dance Teaching which is a nationally recognised qualification. All exams are through the International Dance Teachers Association.

 

Trainees must be over the age of 13 and at least Grade 5 standard to embark on the programme.

The minimum age for the Pre- Associate Exam is 16 years of age.

 

Duties include:

 

Escorting children to and from reception into class.

Keeping a class register.

Keeping and eye on health and safety hazards in the studio

Toilet trips with the younger ones

Tying shoe laces and helping with changes

Helping less confident and new children settle into class.

Taking the warm up on occasion.

Making sure the studio is tidy at the end of the class ready for the next one.

Operating music when necessary.

Teaching steps and sequences in smaller groups.

 

Commitment:

 

You will be allocated one assisting class in the week which you must commit to on a weekly basis. Continuity is essential in building a relationship and trust with the children. There is the opportunity to add more assisting classes if you so wish.

 

There is also a weekly teacher training session on Wednesday which you must be able to attend.

IDTA Performers syllabus for your chosen subject

A4 Pukka Pad

A4 40 pocket display file to prepare your portfolio.

Computer literate as the portfolio has to be printed

Student Teachers 

 

The Third Level of training is once you have passed your Pre Associate 1 

Duties are the same as on the Teacher trainee level but you are now a recognised student teacher and can be asked to lead or teach parts of the class under the teacher’s supervision. 

Your next exam will be Pre Associate 2. This means your assisting classes may change to reflect the level you will now be assessed on.
